Default Green Water

Tis that time of the year for most,.....and here are some of the major
reasons why!

A new pond that is not biologically balanced yet, will be a prime
candidate for Algae blooms. Yes, yur new setup or just filled pond is
a prime candidate for green water.

Remedy---Patience, along with good filter maintenance and light
feedings. Most folks overfeed, and clean filters less thanthey should

Ponds that have their bio system interrupted by chemicals, over
feeding, or over stocking. Same old overfeeding or over stocking is
the biggewst problems

Remedy--Think before you add any chemical, food or more fish. It will
upset the ecological balance, learn to manage your pond system and
it's inhabitants. Do you really need to add that one addtional goldie

Radical changes in temperature or change of seasons, or an inordinate
amount of rainfall.

Remedy-- Intermittent use of a UV light Patience and light feedings.
Here is were a UVC is nice to have just to get a jump on a potential
problem, and used this way its possible to get many years of service
life out of a UV bulb assembly. Most ponds shoulc be able to function
without UVC and have no need to have a UV light on 24/7/365 as some
would have you believe.

Older ponds that have built up a large amount of dissolved organics.

Remedy--Small frequent water changes, Patience and frequent Filter
cleanings. This is where a dose / treatment of PP is good. It oxidizes
the mulm and junk and reduces chances of infections and sickness that
can occur. Its important to clean a ponds bottom etc in fall and early
spring..

Your post was timely. Also... what PP (not to be confused with pee pee I'm
sure) that you speak of?

PP = Potassium Permanganate, a very powerfull oxidizer available at
most pond supply places and as well as some BIg Box stores in their
pond section (Lowes, Homme Depot etc) as well as in some stores that
carry water softener supplies.
