Default Firemouth behaving strangely

I have a pair of Firemouth Cichlids which have started acting strangely
since the introduction of a new Firemouth just a few days ago. Since his
introduction, the old pair moved to a different location in the tank and
every time that the new guy swims by, one of the old ones swims up to him
and flares out his/her gills. Once the new guy passes by, the old fish
returns back to the chosen spot and starts shaking in the presence of
his/her "partner". I've never seen them do this before and I'm wondering if
this is normal display of dominance?

Feedback much appreciated.

Very typical cichlid behaviour. Your old pair may also be
ready to spawn.

Bob thank you so much for your response. Should I do anything special to
encourage them to spawn?

I have an add on question to this,
where can I find more in depth information on the type of Cichlids that I
have in my tank?
I am able to find tons of information on African Cichlids but none have the
ones that live in my tank, so I don't even know about their background,
where they are from etc.
I have Firemouths, Convicts, Green Terrors, Maniguen (sp), Red Devils, Jewel
Fish, Pacus, etc....

Assistance much appreciated,
Mariana

I believe these are the south american cichlids. I have kept convicts
before, they are a great fish, very territorial, but they will breed very
readily. a single cichlid will try to mate with those breeds if it can't
find another cichlid!!

I think a google search on "south american cichlids" should give you plenty
of info.
