Default Unidentified Cichlid?

Today I was at a local Hole in the wall fish store loooking at fish. I saw
some cichlids that looked very nice. I asked the lady the name of them but
she did not know. I was hoping with a description someone might know what
type of cichlid this is. The markings on the body look like an upside down
T. With one solid black bar going horizontally from tail to head and one
bar going vertically from dorsal fin to the horizontal bar. The head of
this fish is similar to a green terror in color but a littly more pudgy.
All fins (especially the anal) have reddish-orange coloring on the tips.
This fish looks really nice but I don't know whta it is. Someone suggested
a T-bar cichlid but it doesnt look like that fish when I pull up pictures on
the web. If someone knows what type of fish this is or a site where I can
browse through a multitude of pictures please let me know. Thank You.

Looked at the black belt cichlid. That does not look like the fish I have.
The body is a little more stubbier and all fins have red on them. Thanks.

Aequidens diadema or metae is what it sounds like. Try searching on
www.fishbase.org and do a search for the Aequidens genus. You may find your
fish there.

The pictures for Aequidens diadema seem to match up perfect with the fish I
have. Thank You for the name. I would have never found that fish on the
web. I have been searching for info and need to know if they are ok in
their existing home with GT's, Convicts, and Jack dempsey. It doesnt seem
like they are an very aggressive fish. they seme to be getting along well
with there tank mates. If you kow of anywhere where I can get more detailed
info on their lifestyle please let me know. I want them to be happy.
Thanks

I think like most larger cichlids, they can live 10+ years. They are less
aggressive than GT's and I've been told they could be kept with fish like
Severums. Just keep an eye on things to make sure they aren't getting beat
up. I think this fish is actually prettier at full size than the GTs are.
What size tank are all of these in? because you are going to need a pretty
sizable tank with cons, GTs, JDs. The diadema also stay smaller than the
GTs. Around 8" or so.

Default Unidentified Cichlid?

Right now I currently have these fish housed in a 125g. The biggest one is
a JD that is about 5". I know that once they get bigger I probaly will need
to seperate them but for now they seem to be ok. The diadema's (I guess
known as Royal Acara) are holding there own pretty good. The only thing I
worry about is that lately I have been feeding my fish only Feeder fish to
excel their growth. It seems as if the diadema's don't like feeders. They
don't even eat the other fishes left overs. I was wondering are these guys
omnivores or carnivores? So far everything seems good. And like you
said...once they get older it seems as if they will be a very pretty fish.
I jusdt cant believe I picked them up for only 2.99 a piece. Maybe I should
buy more. Anyways. Thanks for all your help.
