im setting up my 1st sw tank, was orig. going with freshwater but
decided it was boring. this setup is more of a low-budget experiment. i've heard many differnt things about small tanks, mostly its difficult. i have a 20gal aquarium, aquaclear 150 filter, thermometer, and a 100w marineland heater. heres what ive done so far, kinda just did it, i learn best the hard way.. 1. dumped 20lb bag of live sand into tank 2. filled with water from tap (bad for livesand? should have premixed sal****er?) 3. added 2 teaspoons of "jungle" brand start right water treatment 4. added 10 cups of instant ocean salt, mixing it with a kitchen mixer attachment in my dewalt drill as i poured it in 5. added small packet of clarifier stuff that came with the sand (was this supposed to clear the water up?) 6. turned on my filter, heater, and my two 24" 20w 9325k 950 lumen "aqua rays" by GE bulbs in a cheap 2' shop light fixture now im planning on letting it sit for a couple weeks, hopefully it clears up, then get a sample tested or get a test kit, add some (probly cheap) fish and see what happens! my goal is to keep a few damsels and a clownfish or two. i might exchange my aquaclear filter for a biowheel, i was told its better but a guy at a small shop. |
