![]() Where can I find a decent gate valve? (No metal) I'm looking to upgrade my pump, but I want a way to regulate the flow into the tank so I don't overflow the tank. --Kurt |

I think the plastic gate valves are all plastic. The
ball valves are less expensive, and work quite well. Here is one: http://www.aquaticeco.com/index.cfm/.../8527/cid/2038 I see a metal screw on the nob but the rest is probably plastic. You could contact them to make sure. Wayne Sallee KurtG wrote on 11/24/2007 12:11 PM: Where can I find a decent gate valve? Unless you plan to fine tune it regularly, a ball
valve will be fine. Wayne Sallee KurtG wrote on 11/24/2007 5:23 PM: Wayne Sallee wrote: I think the plastic gate valves are all plastic. The ball valves are less expensive, and work quite well. Thanks. I wasn't sure if they do the job for partial open or close operation. |

Where can I find a decent gate valve? (No metal) In this area, both Home Depot and Lowes carry all-plastic valves. They are designed for plumbing systems; consequently they will hook directly to only the standard PVC or ABS tubing sizes. There is one set of sizes for cold water lines and another for hot water lines, which gives you some flexibility in hooking it to your pump. I found a larger pump laying around, so I put that into service. So far, it isn't overtaxing the overflow box, but I need to get a bigger inlet, so maybe in the future. I can't believe how much detritus is in the tank. I'll definitely wash the sand before installing any tanks in the future. Last time I looked in Lowe's I couldn't find any gate valves. I'll take another look. I'd like to get one for my skimmer. --Kurt |

Last time I looked in Lowe's I couldn't find any gate valves. Odd - I thought that was where I got mine, but I must be mis-remembering. Mine were all designed for hot water lines (the plastic is sort of a puce color, instead of the pure white of PVC). Maybe I got them at one of the places HD put out of business. I threw away most of mine, but I still have one if you want it. It's glued to 1/2" hot water lines, but one end connects to a plastic 1/2" MPT. If that sounds like something you want, email me.
