Okay fairly new to the cichlid thing and am loving it. (6 months). I
have 75 gal. tank and all ph properties correct. 2 whisper filters keeping it sparkly clean. I know this concoction sounds weird but here is my fish. 1 Jack Dempsey 1 Texas Green Cichlid 1 Green Terror 2 Red Zebras 1 Elephant Hap 1 ? Hap (was told it was female peacock) 1 Electric Blue 1 Electric Orange 1 Electric Yellow Lab 1 Bumble Bee 1 Demasoni 1 Pair of Convicts 1 Little yellow cichlid with horizontal stripes can't recall the name right now. Any suggestions on what to get next? Yeah the dude at the fish store looked at me like I was an idiot on what I have in there but that is my tank and I love all my fish. |

A much bigger tank ;-) Seriously, many of those fish are going to get large pretty fast, a 75 will be way too small when they are adults. I know a lot of people don't like mixing old and new world cichlids, but I kept a pair of convicts with Ps saulosi and L. trewevasae in a 100 with no problems at all-di have to thin out the convicts now and then, fortunately I also had a nice pair of dovii at the time!. |

Thanks for all of the input my friend is thinking of taking the Texas and
Jack off of my hands and that was supposed to be giraffe hap. not elephant hap. and I also have a frontosa. Getting rid of the top three and also the other two mentioned in this reply. Will stay away for sa species from now on. "Sarotherodon" wrote in message ... "Motor" wrote in message ... Okay fairly new to the cichlid thing and am loving it. (6 months). You do realize the Frontosa gets rather large compared to the rest of your
inhabitants.. I like the Frontosa myself but I don't a tank large enough for a few.. Timmer.. "Motor" wrote in message ... you could get some more of the haps or psuedotropheus.
try hap. moori....peaceful & beautiful I think the large sa cichlids will have to go because they will get too big and too agressive...remove the top 3 and you can add maybe 5-10 more mbuna "Motor" wrote in message ... Here's the problem as I see it, your first three choices, will absolutely
kill everything else in the tank, in 90 out of 100 times... yet again, YMMV.... the Zebras, are pretty aggressive, but not like the terrors, and dempsey... you know where they get their names right?? Do what you will, but think twice about the first three choices, IMNSHO, I'd get peacocks, they are prettier.... "Motor" wrote in message ... Okay fairly new to the cichlid thing and am loving it. You do not mention the sizes of your fish, but that already sounds like a pretty fully stocked tank to me. Moreover, At full-size (around a foot), the Texas cichlid and "Elephant Hap" (I assume you are referring to Nimbochromis linni) will be more than enough for that tank and would probably eat most of your other fish. What I would advise you to get next is more tanks, so that you can separate out what you admit is a weird concoction. First thing I would do is separate the New World cichlids (the Dempsey, Texas cichlid, and convicts are from Central America; the Green terror is from South America), from the rest of your cichlids, which are all from Lake Malawi in Africa. Second thing I would do would be to separate the Malawi haps from the mbuna, since these two groups of fish generally have different habitat, temperament, and dietary requirements. In particular, the more aggressive mbuna will often kill the haps. You might also want to get mates for your fish. Just keeping a single fish is a bit unnatural, and you lose out on observing breeding and other behavior. Generally, for mouthbrooders such as the Malawi cichlids, you would want two or three females per male (a single female may get too much abuse crude from the male). Hope this helps, Meph |

Your tank is only good for 1 adult Texas, my full grown 11" Texas wouldn't
share a 180G with a 11" Red Devil. Texas becomes extremely aggressive as adult, it can take out Jack Dempsey and Green Terror without any problem, not to mention those small Africans. I am with DJ 100% on this. My first Cichlid was a Texas and he killed
everything I ever tried to keep with him in my 90g. When that Texas hits maturity you will probably be kissing everything else in the tank goodbye. "Motor" wrote in message ... The DJ has a bad 'tude, which is why I never bothered to get one.. I have a
single Convict with my mbuna, just for a target fish. The Convict seems to make the Mbuna better parents... The Electric Blues I , red zebras and the larger male Kenyi like to beat him up a bit, but they don't kill the Con or seem to hurt it badly.. Timmer...
