You really shouldnt be keeping goldfish with tropical fish. The thing about
the mucous is a load of rubbish though. Tropical and freshwater fish have completely different needs. Also are you aware that just one goldfish should have at least a 10 gallon tank all to itslef? Pure horsehockey. The big thing with goldies is they have different needs as already stated above and do not mix well with tropicals. They grow fast and grow large and need much larger tanks even when small as they are messy fish.......goldfish makeing killer mucus, now thats an all time first on hearing that, and just when you thought you heard it all from those big box pet store associates! |

Its good cheap entertainment in a lot of cases. As for them and their ability to net a fish. Thats a whole other ballgame. I have seen employees get so frustrated that they start slinging a net all which ways, finally net the fish and wind up missing the collection container or bag, fish wind up on floor, etc etc. I woiuld give the clerk a chance to catch what fish I wanted, and if it was un cuaught in short order, I wuld tell em to forget it, as you do not want a stressed out fish to contend with. Best to come back another day for it and hop[e someone that knows how to net a fish is there instead of the idiot that merely swipes a net around. I have seen clerks net fish and reach into the net with their hands to grab the fish and place in bag etc etc.Thats a no no, as is any time a fish hits the floor or touches bare hands I tellem to forget it that your no longer interested........and then go turn em in to the manager (not that they will always do anything about it though) |

you can also tell them to simply move the net very slowly. or keep one net still and
move the fish toward it with another. Actually, a WET hand is better than a net, it is less likely to strip scales or slime coat. best is to use your hand to move a fish towards the plastic bag.
