I just changed over my 55 to essentially an Angel tank, with a few
catfish and lots of Amazon Sword plants. I got 6 small locally bred assorted fish at my LPS. Can someone give me a quick run down on what they like? I haven't kept them in years and only remember them being voracious eaters and very hardy. -- "Never bet on the end of the world because it's only going to happen once and how are you going to collect?" I feed mine minced beef heart, tubliflex worms, a little flake food etc. Like you say, angels are hearty eaters! Beef heart will make them put on size, QUICK! Regards, JS |

Regards, JS Do you do your own beef, or get it in a petshop? What's the procedure? Yes, I purchase fresh beefheart. One way is to take pieces of the unfrozen heart and pulse it through a blender on "chop", until the result is in pieces of the right size. Another way is to use a cheap metal grater on the frozen heart, shaving off pieces of a suitable size by choosing the proper place on the hand grater. DON'T process frozen heart in a blender, it will break the shaft/bearings/blades of the blender. Regards, JS |

I'm just guessing it has to do with fatty content messing up the tank? What about pieces of any lean fresh steak, chicken or pork? -- "Money Won is Twice as Sweet as Money Earned" ... Yeah, I have fed cichlids lean beef ... no apparent harm. I would worry about feeding them fat though, as I have fed fat to Oscars, in the past, and from their stool, it is obvious they CANNOT process fat ... Beef heart is very good though ... I have never seen any live food able to put on mass on a fish faster ... and, it is VERY cheap! Regards, JS |

I feed all my fish a combination of frozen and live foods, and give flake food once per week. Frozen foods consist of bloodworms, adult brine shrimp & baby shrimp. Live foods include grindal worms, springtails, daphnia, and black worms & mosquito larvae whenever I get the opportunity. |
