After about 20 years I'm getting back into fishkeeping, and much has changed
in that time. I want to set up a tank with central or south american (probably dwarf) cichlids plus a few other occupants and I need a refresher course in aquarium know-how before I do it. Can anyone recommend any books that are must-haves or highly useful either on cichlids or aquarium-keeping in general that would give me the information I need to know what I'm doing? Any suggestions for books that are particularly inspiring would be good too. -- Joe B. (remove composer for email) |

AC www.amateurcichlids.com Enjoying Cichlids has a lot of excellent detailed information that is very difficult to find elsewhere. But it's an anthology of articles written by various authors, and they are not shy about setting forth some rather eccentric views on various issues, e.g. feeding. For a refresher course, I would instead recommend either Baensch, freshwater Atlas, volume I, or Loiselle's the Cichlid Aquarium. Of course, all these books are worth owning. Just my take, Meph |

I like a book called "You and Your Aquarium" by Dick Mills -- It is a beginners manual, but it is very thorough and has some good information. It's not specifically Cichlid though, but it's a good read. --Mark Mark Stone tractorlegs at msn dot kom OSCAR Lovers! http://www.geocities.com/cichlidiot_2000/oscar.html The ".Edu" meens i are smart. |

Ad Konings, Herbert Axelrod.. These fellows have been around for a while, but still offer great information and value.. Also I have food some of the books by TetraPress have been good sources of information.. Welcome back to the hobby.. A lot has changed but at the same time a lot has stayed the same... Tim... |

I still have every fish book I ever bought, going back to the mid 70's
and some info has changed over the years. Besides books check out some of the on line sources like the Krib and check into some magazines out there. I like "Tropical Fish Hobbyist, The leading Aquarium Magazine For Over Half a Century" There are a lot of great articles in there. They also have a web site http://www.tfh.com which may help. Vicki |
