Mark, Fishaholics is run by Barbie. She's a cichlids and pleco type gal. She's kept quite few different species and has bread quite a few things. We figure by combining our forum memberships and by adding my programming ability with her aquaria knowledge we can put together a pretty decent site. That and she has a lot of contacts in the aquaria world. Online fish sellers and breeders who are well versed in aquaria, but have never seen the internet. ;-) The site will look like a combination of the two sites. We're sticking with the name Fishaholics, because I got tired of people saying "You shouldn't be saying you're an amateur." Although I am, since I don't get paid. Also because the site will be broader based than just cichlids, Fishaholics makes more sense than AmateurCichlids. We'll cover anything to do with aquaria. Including marine setups, ponds, etc. I will focus on the cichlid section of the site of course. =) We'll also have a section of aquaria photography, underwater photography and scuba diving. We'll be adding more species profiles and I'll be writing more articles on my trip to Tanganyika. And in a couple years, I hope to have pictures from Malawi and articles on that up coming trip. Should see the new look by the end of next month or sooner hopefully. Although Cichlid-Forum has pretty much everything anyone could want, we hope to provide a home for those who are looking for a smaller, more close knit group. That and we won't be recommending keeping Cypichromis in a thirty gallon tank as I've seen done on some other sites. LOL. Amateur |
