Is a 2.5 gallon big enough for a Betta?
And what about heating it? I read that you should never put a heater in a tank that small, but I know they like it warm. A -- http://snipurl.com/cz4a : Submit a Google Request "Default quoting of previous message in replies." |

A I've got one in a 3g. filtered tank. It likes it's few plastic plants and floating moss. I solved the heater thing by putting a heating pad under the plastic tank. I have a timer on it to go on twice a day for about 4-6 hours each. With the thermometer on the side I can keep the temp. fluctuations to a minimum. All the best, Larry |

I've kept bettas in a 2 gal hex and they usually live for over 2 years happily bubblenesting away. I put a 25W Hagen thermal compact heater in the tank (smallest I could find) and it's fine. If it ever breaks and stays on, I'll have bouillibaise, but the one Hagen heater I had that broke stayed off anyway. I think it's worth the risk to keep a betta warm and healthy. There are also now tiny heaters designed for goldfish bowls that you could use. -- __ Elaine T __ __' http://eethomp.com/fish.html '__ |

A 2 1/2 gallon tank is a nice size home for a betta. I have several
of mine in 2 1/2 gallon glass tanks that I bought from Petsmart. I use the Neptune brand 25 watt heaters and I find them to be very accurate. Maria |

Now he's moved on into the big GF tank, I can't stand having an empty tank there... ![]() A |

I was walking through the pet store today, noticing that a 29 gal (which I have...) looks really tiny next to a 55. I held off on the betta today, because I want to change filters. The one I have agitates the surface too much. A |

That's funny I was just noticing how small my 55 looks compared to the two empty 90's on my floor here. -- Need Mercedes parts ? - http://parts.mbz.org http://www.mbz.org | Mercedes Mailing lists: http://lists.mbz.org 633CSi 250SE/C 300SD | Killies, killi.net, Crypts, aquaria.net 1970 280SE, 72 280SE | Old wris****ches http://watches.list.mbz.org |

Bettasngoldfish,
I agree, I love the Neptune 25 watt heaters too. Like you, I find them very reliable and accurate. I use them in my 2.5 gal hospital tanks. |
