Default Cutting Live Rock?

What would the implications be to cutting Live Rock? I want to take slices
of the rock in order to create plates with flat tops and bottoms. This is
being considered to improve the stability and stack-ability of the reef.
These plates can then be positioned rather easily to create a tall open reef
with lots of shelf areas to place coral. What do you think?

We have an LFS here who has that kind of setup for thier coral displays.
Looks great.

Sounds like too much work for me!
I would rather do the:
- Build a stand/support out of ABS
- ZipTie my rocks together
- Epoxy them together

But, I do like the idea of having some shelves to put corals on.
Now if you could only make a set of adjustable reef shelves for
different size corals........................................
.............................................That' s an idea!!!

John,

Nature never has a straight line in it. If you cut your LR
open in an effort to create level spots, you may release
some stuff into the water that wasn't an issue before, plus
your tank may tend to look man-made.

You can buy shelf rock that provides you with some semi-flat
spots, and yet still look natural to the eye.
