Default is this fungus? is this a female beta?

Hello All,

I've posted recently(*) about a female beta my daughter got as a gift
from a friend last month;

just FYI, she was in a very small jar but I've got her a 3.5 galon hex
tank with a heater, some plants and no filter (but I'm doing 20% water
changes twice a week);

now I have 2 questions:

- there are white spots on her anal fin and on the edges of those long
pectoral fins; I'm afraid it is some sort of fungus; could you please
help me identify it?

- to me she looks like a male, she flares at the mirror and she blows
huge bubble nests.. is "she" really a female beta?

there are pics of her
at http://otavio.exel.com.br/pics/aquaria/lilica/
the best one is
http://otavio.exel.com.br/pics/aquar...a/DSC00206.JPG

I still have to get her a big leaf'ed plant so she can rest near the
surface but, other than that, she looks very happy!

TIA!

I'm no expert but looks all boy to me....

Can't see the white spots very clearly but it looks like it might be ich. Do
they look like small grains of sugar/salt?

That's a gorgeous, healthy male betta, growing his fins. That bright
white tip on the pelvic fins is a really common color variant in pet
store bettas, and the the pale color in the ventral fin also looks like
a bit of color variation. There's a sort of betta called a butterfly
with fin edges that are colored differently from the center. See how
the tail is also changing color? I think your fish is going to end up
with blue fins with a white edging.

As Elaine says, the white is definitely the natural color of the fins
as they are growing out. Looks like a male betta to me too.

Congratulations! It's a boy! And he looks like he is beginning a butterfly pattern.
I think maybe what happened is he was a slow grower and was stuck in with the girls. Then you got him, and now he's gender confused. Does he wear lipstick when he flares? Some times it can be harder to sex juveniles, so mistakes do happen. Enjoy your fish!

I want to add my vote for "healthy male". He looks beautiful.
