Hi,
I was put in charge at work of moving the three goldfish into a new bigger tank. The poor guys have been living in a cramped 5gal tank and it was about time to do something about it. We got a 20Gal tank and I just set it up today. I used city water and to condition it I used aqua-plus from Hagen and plan on leaving it running until monday, so the water warms up to room temperature, when I plan on moving one goldfish into the tank to start the cycle. In the old tank I added another sponge to the filter a couple months back to help filtering and I plan on using it on the new tank to help with the bacteria growth. My question is about timing. When should I move the sponge? Before the goldfish, How far ahead? At the same time? After? How long after? Obviously once the fish is in there I will keep an eye on the water quality and put up with water changes. Anything else I should be doing? thx. |

Some may disagree, but I would use all the old water, transfer the
filters to the new tank, add more water, and add a product called STABILITY for 7 days. You should not lose any fish and the tank will cycle nicely. n |

Thanks,
I plan on moving the water from the old tank to the new, but I am not sure if it is a good idea to move the three goldfish at the same time. Never heard of that product and I don't think my lfs has it. I know because I spend alot of time in there. ![]() |

Got into a little problem...
I've been told that management wants the fish moved before the end of this week. ![]() I told them I can't guarantee that the new tank will be ready to have three big goldfish. |

Hi,
Guess what??? I got to work this afternoon and the three fish have been moved into the tank... Last night before I left I tested the water for amonia and got a reading of 2.4, so did half tank change water. This afternoon there's three fish in there. I already sent an email saying that I was not taking responsability anymore on the fish because I don't want to be responsible if something happens to the fish. The reply I got was that they found the fish to be lonely and decided to put the other two and they now see a huge difference in behaviour... I am annoyed that I am put in charge of something and then do not listen to me... So I am out. |

Sneak some AmQuel or Ammo Lock into the tank when nobody's looking so the fish don't suffer. ;-) Bacteria from the filter sponge you added should kick in soon enough. -- Elaine T __ http://eethomp.com/fish.html '__ rec.aquaria.* FAQ http://faq.thekrib.com |

Today they are singing that the move is completed and that the fish are
in their new home. I look like an idiot, after I spent my time explaining why it's was not a good idea to move all the fish at once and test the water, do water changes, etc etc... After one day they move all the fish, do not test the water, no water changes, and now are saying the fish are happy in their new home!! I look like an complete idiot in the office now. It sucks. |
