Default Problems with the newsgroup

Is anyone else having problems viewing posts? I see more post when I go
through google groups, then through my outlook express.

I use outlook express with my isp as well. Make sure you catch all of the
posts that are in already established threads. Click on the + sign next to a
thread subject title if you have your outlook express set (possible?) to not
expand threads. A lot of the posts here are additional posts within the same
thread and if outlook express doesn't automatically expand the thread then
very few if any new posts are evident. Good luck, and I am not trying to
make you feel stupid, later!

Might be with your ISP, although I use OE at home and at work for
newsgroups too, and my work copy never wants to display all the messages
unless I say Catch up, and then the extra messages disappear again when I
leave. I've checked all the view settings. Damn MS contraptions.

I have OE but use Agent Forte. Works great. Why don't you try it?

Each server you use to access USENET will have a different selection
of groups. Also, the retention of posts differs from place to place.
Some ISP's keep text posts almost forever, others retain them for
only days.

Actually there is a free version of Agent. I have used the paid
version for years, but for text newsgroups the free version should be
quite adequate.

As for missing posts, I would suspect your Internet Provider (IP).
Unless you pay for a separate "usenet" service you may be limited by
what your IP has contracted to provide you.

Personally, I have subscribed to "giganews" for years. They keep
postings for 5 months. That is a lot of "retention," and can be a
hassle the first time you visit a group, but you can be assured of
getting everything.

I have only used Outlook Express on rare occaisions, so if your
problem is in the reader, I have no ideas except to suggest trying
"agent" from Forte.

Agent or Free Agent is a program for reading newsgroups. You can't
surf the web with it or do other stuff, only read newsgroups. It's
much better than the reader with IE or Netscape (is Netscape still
around?), at least IMO. When you install it you need to type into it
your ISP's email server address and a few other things, so you should
have this info in advance. Agent can be downloaded at
http://www.forteinc.com/
It appears to me that you download Agent, the full program, and can
use it for thirty days, afterwards you're supposed to pay for a
license or it will revert to Free Agent which has fewer features. I
use Free Agent and it's fine, a very good newsreader.
