I told them to never clean the bio-wheel. I thought that was known by all.

Between all of us, we have probably visited 100s of petshops, perhaps
1000s of times, and overheard comments which made our ears go red.
Does
anyone have any favourites?

I remember overhearing :
"Goldfish can live in a bowl because they are air breathers",

- and of course the perennial classic:
"Oscars are fine in a community tank".

On one of my trips to Petsmart (?), I over heard a woman and hear
daughter
talking to a clerk about a Peguin Bio-wheel. Clerk says "And all you have

to
do to clean the wheel is run it under water in the sink".

I never clean my biowheels and I've never even been tempted to do so. They
keep going and going and going.... I don't run penguins anymore though
except for my older woman friend right now and I expect that even though I
use the superior "spray bar" type of bio-wheel the penguin will serve her
almost perfectly. Is there some kind of truth you are referring to that is
different from what I know or are you supposed to not rinse the biowheels
in
tap water because the chlorine/probable temperature shock would kill of a
lot if not all of the good bacteria? Just curious/fascinated, later!

I just had to
speak up. The mother and daughter were happy I did, and the clerk gave me
one of those 'deer in headlights' looks.

I'm sure the Angels don't mind.

I couldn't make out the vocals myself, but I still had to close the
widows!! Bloody Iron Maiden!

I wouldn't have minded if I could have heard the Pixies mind.

Biggest lies my local council told me:-

"Reading Festival will be quieter now we have relocated it a few yards up
the river " - word perfect right now - Iron Maiden I believe...

I know it's off-topic but it drowned out anything we were trying to listen
to unless we turned the volume up to a level which would have scared the
fish.....

BTW I can't believe I've become such an old foggie :-) Hey, if it had been
something I liked (like the good old days ) I might have spent the weekend
in the garden - lol

I think the higher up the hill you get the worse it becomes - Albert Road
Park on Friday pm with the little one I could even hear the
introductions.....my sister in law who lives in Lower Cav could hear it but
not the words - so just like you. I've got a friend in the Heights who
claims she could even sing along to every song when Elton John did the
Madjeski - I can't comment coz I was there....(BTW not my usual taste but he
was there and I don't get out much - it was v. good)

I guess the move was to suit those influential (rich) residents of The
Warren - certainly didn't help any of us much.....I remember years ago
living on Caversham Road and apart from the hoards walking up and down the
road couldn't hear a thing - bit disappointing coz I think it was Lizzie
that year.....

Wonder if any of the council are fish keepers?????

"All Clown Loaches sold now are farm bred with the use of hormones" - I
always thought they were wild caught and didn't breed in captivity....would
be interesting if anyone knows better....

Gill

The first report of clown loach breeding in captivity was in Practical
Fishkeeping, Feb. 1996. I remember it coming out because everyone where
I worked who was interested in FW handed the magazine around. A summary
is here. http://www.loaches.com/loachbreeding.html I have no idea
whether they're being commercially bred.

Sorry hit send too quick. Same site I read that they keep Clown Loaches in
holding if they are under-sized in fish farms but I can't remember the exact
link but it was the same site....it has to be said that the number of Clowns
on the market locally make me think that they must be being bred
commercially - LFS said Singapore - but with the use of hormones which IMO
must weaken the stock - maybe a reason we are all struggling with CL's.

I guess this a watch this space and research

All Mollies are the same species,

I learned this from:
