ok ok...

If petrol costs $1.30 per litre and has been increasing at a steady
rate of 1c/day, then how old is my oscar? haha!

That'll change when you start noticing their food bill ;~) At least their
appetite includes alternate foods (worms, crickets, seafood, steak etc).

That would depend on the size of your dog, and who you decide to pamper the
most ;~).

There are frozen specialty discus foods which Oscars would do flips for, but
would have many of us in a poorhouse in no time.

wow! I have decided I like discus, but I don't think I'll attempt
discus until I retire - and I'm only 25 now, so I've got a while to
learn about them properly. I hear they are particularly touchy fish.
And expensive. So I'll keep a few oscars in the meantime, then I might
try discus.

Discus are not as fragile as their reputation might suggest, but they are
not for beginners either (too expensive to make mistakes with). In any
case, they sure eat a lot less than Oscars ;~).
