No I'm not carrying a grudge. It's just the typical stuff,
like this item is safe for, this item is the best [read
"we make the most money on"], this fish is easy to keep,
and pictures that are doctered so that they look prittyer
than what you will ever get. And many other things. It's
just the typical stuff, same stuff you get at many pet
stores. And a common practice done by mail orders, is to
quote a misinformed customer. That way *they* didn't say
it, they were just quoting what a customer said.

Just because you read something in print, doesn't mean
it's true. That's one nice thing about this newsgroup, is
that it is open to everyone to debate issues.

Not to be argumentative or start a beef, but I am apparently not an avid
fishkeeper, I've only been in the hobby for a short time. But I, like
many others, I'm sure, read this newsgroup for information. Laying down
blanket statements that you just have to look for dishonesty is a little
hard to take. In the many forums and pages I've read as well as talking
to others in the hobby, I have been directed to LiveAquaria.com more
often than not. If they are fleecing the public and you feel like some
injustice is being served then I think it's your duty as their
competetor to share specifics, not just blanket statements about lies
and false advertising. This hobby is very expensive and local stores
cost even more, online retailers are becoming more and more common. If
there is a legitimate reason I should not shop there I will listen to
it. But if you are just carrying a 5 year old grudge that you can't get
over, please let us know, I try to find the best stuff for the best value.

I don't think that too many people have trouble dealing with them as
far as getting what they ordered, and such, but if you look at the
catalog, and look for the dishonesty, you should have no trouble
finding it, if you are an avid fish keeper, and know better than to
fall for it. Also look for picturs that have been doctered up. The
dishonesty in the catalog is not any worse than the average pet store
:-) I've just gotten discusted with the amount of dishonesty in this
industry. What ever happened to "truth in advertizing"?

Yep they are overlooked by Dr Foster and Smith, but I don't regard
Dr Foster and Smith very highly. There is so much dishonesty in
thier catalogs.

Wayne,

Can you offer some specifics here? My wife and I run a kennel and
have been ordering from Drs Foster and Smith for years and have never
found their advertising, sales, or policies to be misrepresented.

In fact, I recently posted that a sump I ordered had arrived broken
and they replaced it on the spot (and upgraded me to 2-day delivery)
and didn't require me to return the broken one. Now I call that service.

I'm setting my tank up again (I moved across the country) and can't
remember where I ordered my rock from last time! I live in the Mojave
desert and must get my rock online. Any advice on whom to avoid? TIA,
Andy

My 3 favorite stops: www.liveaquaria.com for rock and sometimes corals.
www.bigalsonline.com for great value on overprice dry goods...the best !
and http://www.sealifeflorida.com/catalog/index.php for some different cheap
Florida corals (they also have rock)

Oh yeah and not to start a debate...you either love'em or hate'em
http://www.garf.org/

They came up with a process of making your own rock called Aragocrete.
Cement and agronite mix.

I guess there is some high ph issues with this in the beginning...I have no
experience with this.
But you can create some cool looking pieces. For the artistic type I guess.

Wayne,

I have been in the hobby for over 20 years and I don't see what you are
saying. I find it interesting that you make a slanderous statement but back
it up with nothing. If indeed you are in the retail business you would not
want someone slamming your business for nonsensical reasons. I am sure if
you sent your post to the store mentioned they would love to entertain your
notions and ask you to back it up also...by no menas trying to start a
grudge ware here but I have been reading alot of your posts and you are not
the no all tell all in this forum.
