Default adapter for megaflow hose

I have a All-Glass Megaflow Model 2 sump. I'm trying to connect it to
my LifeReef PreFilter. The LifeReef pre-filter has a 1" threaded male
adapter coming out of the bottom, and a 1" barbed adapter that connects
to that. I don't understand this "vacuum" style hose that comes with
the Megaflow sump. It's a strange size. It seems to be somewhere
between 1" and 1 1/4". The vacuum hose is too big for the 1" adapter
coming out of my LifeReef, but it's to small for a 1 1/4" adapter. The
PVC stand pipe that goes into the sump itself seems to be 1 1/4". The
vacuum hose fits over it, but it's very tight, which I guess is good.
Anyway, any suggestions on how to connect this vacuum hose up to the 1"
output coming from the LifeReef prefilter? Should I just get rid of
the vacuum style hose and create something with flex tubing? Any
suggestions appreciated. Thanks.

Steve

Default adapter for megaflow hose

Depends on what hose or tubing you want to use. The vacuum style is
difficult to work with since it can't be cut to size. I found the extra
length would "sag" and create problems with draining as well. Plus, it's
noisier too as you can hear splashing through it.

Anyway, if you want to use the vacuum style, you will have to remove the 1"
barbed adapter that connects to the 1" threaded male adapter coming out of
the bottom of the pre-filter and replace it with a 1" threaded female by 1"
slip female adapter. Screw that onto the adapter coming ouf of the bottom
of the pre-filter and then glue a small length of 1" PVC into the remaining
slip end.

If you want to use vinyl tubing instead (which is what I did on mine), get a
1" PVC barrel connector (female slip x female slip) and glue it to the 1"
PVC coming out of the Megaflow sump. Then glue a 1" male slip barbed
adaptor into the other end of the barrel connector.
