We inherited a large, female maroon clown with our tank ... from the fish's
activity, it appeared to be pretty old. The past week, the clown has been basically lying on it's side at the bottom of the tank ... we thought for sure it was dying. However, whenever I come to feed the other fish, the maroon perks up and swims up to eat. An hour later, it's on it's side at the bottom of the tank again ... Not sure what to do ![]() |

Is it gasping, or look like its struggling to breathe?

Is it gasping, or look like its struggling to breathe? Marc Yes ... definitely looks like it's struggling to breathe. The clown lays on one side (always the same side) and moves it's body as it breathes ... it's not a violent struggle or anything, but clearly not healthy. However, as I mentioned, whenever I come to feed the fish, the clown gets up and swims towards the food. The swimming motion is not 100% healthy (slightly tilted), but it is eating. I feel like I should put it out of it's misery, but the behavior during feeding confuses me. |
