Hi all!
Well I went on my annual visit to the Shedd aquarium. (It's the world's largest public aquarium in Chicago, IL, USA for those not in the US). NetMax! I was looking at our favorite Cardinal Tetra display. There I was squating down near the glass just like a kid...then drip. I was like huh..looked up....again..drip, drip...I was like Uh Oh = 0 There was dripping water coming from in between the wall of glass and the wall trim at the top. I don't have a clue as to where the source was, but I did tell somebody. She looked at it...and had this face like OH CRAP and left to get somebody. It's most likely a leaky pipe or roof because the water level of that tank wasn't near the leak, but who knows what's about the display where we can't see. = O I took some pics of the display (not the leak, lol) and of course had to get a shot of the Giant Gourami that rams the tank wall at you if you eyeball it. It didn't ram the glass time at me. I changed how I looked at it. When he/she eye balled me...I turned my head slightly and averted my gaze....a simply non threatening body gesture to most living creatures. This was the first time it didn't ram the tank. Hmm...I might be onto to something. = ) |

Did you know that there is a bigger aquarium planning/built in ... Georgia I think. So the Shedd will still be the biggest public aquarium in Illinois ;~). Have you checked out the photos I posted from David's visit to Thailand? They are on my site (see earlier thread). I was thinking of you & Christine when I put them up. I think you'll be amused. -- www.NetMax.tk |

Boston has a much larger central tank, and Monterey has more raw gallons. NetMax! I was looking at our favorite Cardinal Tetra display. Did you know that there is a bigger aquarium planning/built in ... Georgia I think. It opened last November!!! http://www.georgiaaquarium.org/ A buddy of mine runs the technical dept. of the Atlanta Ballet, says its absolutely amazing... I'll be going for a business trip to that area sometime in the summer. A little side trip will be a must. So the Shedd will still be the biggest public aquarium in Illinois ;~). I have a trip to Chicago coming up at the end of April. Busy one, though.. ..I don't know if I can fit a visit in. DaveZ (business and hobby) Weaver |

about what they used to landscape their interiors. Did you know that there is a bigger aquarium planning/built in ... Georgia I think. So the Shedd will still be the biggest public aquarium in Illinois ;~). Oh yeah, I remember when you posted those NetMax because we discussed how my former company did the $150 Million renovation for Shedd. (refresher: I am an exhibit designer who started out in public aquariums) Depending on the type of landscape they are trying to reproduce they will often use a resin casted from molds and/or blow shotcrete and shape it by hand. Obviously, the former works better on detailed landscape. Some institutions will mix live material (plants, corals, etc) into their exhibits. Monterey Bay for example pumps water in from outside and grows all their own giant kelp. New England Aquarium's central tank is entirely fabricated and hand painted. |

I can see nothing special here. They should take a lesson from Monterey Bay. |

World's biggest. Thanks all for correcting me. = ) Side note for Mr. G....on the Angefish thread I posted a reply...2 different times and it went poof twice!! I'll try and do it again for a 3rd time later on. Just too much to type again right now. Hey...can I email you directly so I don't have to chance it again. I don't know what's going on today with this site, or the web, or if it's aol...I don't know. I do know I hit send for the second one I wrote with an important side note about your baby girl (your Newfie), and then it told me I had to sign in..I did and then it supplied me with a blank reply window and my post hasn't yet showed up. So I think it's lost again. The first time I was trying to copy and paste a link for 2 Angelfish suppliers online and then it went poof too. So let me know if I can just re-write everything and send it via email. That way I know it won't mess up. |
