Happy 4th everyone, does anyone happen to know if a Scutus (black sea slug)
can be poisonous to the tak? I found one tonight on a piece of LR, which I temporarily took out of the tank. I'd like to put it back, but only if it can't harm anything as I don't know if they can "kill" my tank if injured or dies. It's about the size of a nickle, jet black with the whitish stipe on it's back. I'm possitive that it's a scutus, but can't find any "threat" info yet. Thanks, Patrick |

Sorry I didn't use my spell check, and meant to say I know it's a black sea
snail (not slug, an elephant slug by common name. |

Hey Patrick,
I have an Elephant Slug as well from him hanging under some live rock I bought. He's substantially bigger than your youngster. I've only had him for 2 weeks but he's just fine. My tank isn't fully loaded with corals and such yet but all is peaceful and healthy. People before me had him since that nickel size in a fully stocked tank and never had a problem. They rather liked him in there. You probably already googled it but... http://www.seaslugforum.net/factsheet.cfm?base=scutus Mine seems to hate light and can tell when the lights are about to turn off (mine are timed). He likes to hang upside down in a cave I have made then starts to peak out just before the lights go out. Regards, Bryan "Patrick" wrote in message news:J3Fqg.823$Og3.56@trnddc06... Thanks Bryan, I did read a lot about it, but still couldn't find anything
that said if it is or isn't potentially harmful. going to put him back tonight. "Bryan" wrote in message ... Oh I missed a part of your question...
I haven't read anywhere that they are toxic. If something should happen to the scutus, your tank should be fine. By the way, the people before me didn't know it was on their rock and so they didn't acclimate it and the scutus did just fine. They apparently tried to kill it once by keeping it out of water for two days and it still lived. (I don't know them personally so no cruelty comments please.) Well they decided if it was that strong that they'd keep him. I, also, just put the rock in my aquarium and he's just fine. I'm thinking in all that, if they're toxic, we'd know by now.
