Flatworms

I prepared my tank for using "Flatworm Exit" and got a bit careless. Let's just
say that I found out why they're called "bristle worms" in some circles.

How long before the itching dies down?

Ouch...they don't ITCH me, the spines stick in like cactus and hurt. Quits
after I pick the spines out.

About 50% of the time I mess with live rock I get some type of
inflammation on one or more of my finger tips. I have bristle worms
and don't know if it get it from them or from other critters on the
live rock. But when it happens I end up loosing all the skin on my
finger tip after 1 or 2 weeks.

The last time it happened was the worst I have had. The whole surface
of one finger tip was red, sore, and hard. The discomfort (it
actually hurt bad) lasted much longer than usual. Probably 4 or 5
days. The pain finally went away and I forgot about it and then one
day all the skin came off.

I try and avoid the worms but they hide and sometimes you don't see
them until it's too late. And again I'm not sure they are the
culprits anyway.

PS. Probably should use rubber or plastic gloves shouldn't I?

Flatworms and bristle worms are not the same thing.

Yep. I bought a box of el cheapo plastic restaurant-server gloves at Sam's, I
rubberband them on. They get full of water, but I don't get stung.
