If your fish is a bass of some kind (no, I'm not familiar with native North American fish and we don't have bass around here), you can only compare your baby's shape and finnage to pics of adult, huge fish as the color might be totally different. The shape of fins might change too but the amount of them never. And rule number one when asking help to identify wild-caught animals: you have to tell where it was caught! Your email address suggests Ohio, but can we be sure that you are actually there and not having a holiday in Malaysia, for example? The type of water should be told too, like was it a small creek or a larger river, running swifly or not, up in the mountains or close to a hot swamp? Liisa |

![]() "Shane Kennedy" wrote in message om... looks little a bass I agree. That is not the face of a small fish (as suggested below that it is a minnow.) If not a bass, it's still a large fish. |

Maybe you are right.
Now I don't think they are minnows. I saw one open its mouth very widely. The whole jaw was open. Maybe just like another say it a little bass. They are not eating and their bellies are shrinking. I think that I am going to put them back to the river. They were caught by the river (Olentangy river, Ohio, http://www.ohiodnr.com/dnap/rivfish/default.htm ) where the water is shallow and standing.
