Do these work for 'wave making'?

I never used them, but the nano cube crowd seems to be stuck on them
pretty heavy. In the nano-reef forum I have never seen any pros or
cons in regards to them, and it seems like most everyone that posts
about setting up their new nano's use them

I have four of them connected to the squid wavemaker in my 58 gallon
aquarium and they work great- 2 on one side and 2 on the other. They are
made of a sturdy plastic and are well jointed so you can position them any
way you want.

I had a couple in my 30 reef - they DID get clogged up with corraline
growth, but a vinegar dip and picking off the growth gave them new life
when it happened. I did this about half a dozen times before a broke
off a piece that joined the geared inside mechanism to the outside
revolving jet. Overall, I'd say they were worth the inconveniences,
especially at the price on marinedepot.com - I paid twice that for them
at the LFS

What sort of pumps/powerheads are you using on these things? I'm
wondering if you could run it off an external airpump - if so then I'll
probably go out and get a couple for my Nano.....the advantage I would
see with this is reducing the heat in the tank (no powerheads to raise
temps). Might go get some anyway - seen some v. good prices on ebay

I'm looking for ways to better disperse flow in my 55g. These seem like
an inexpensive way to do that. However, if I buy 3 or 4 of these, it
would cost about the same as a good pump to make a closed loop manifold.

Sounds like a good product though.

One wave maker device to stay far far away from is the Seaswirl. I
have a few of them laying here and all are busted., I never bought any
of the ones I have, as they were given to me by the lfs.

The hydor ocillator device takes up a lot of space IMHO in the tank,
but then again its not all t hat bad and other than routine cleaning
they do work ok., The Sea Swirl uses a small electric motor to
ocillate the oulet tubes direction. Other brands use water flow itself
as means of powering the wave maker. While its not a wave maker per
say, I plug a powerhead into a daylight recepticle and another into
nighttime recepticle on my coralife timmer so cutrrent flow changes
from time to time, and no residue or detrius accumulates form current
flow in one direction. So far it appears to work fine at eliminateing
dead spots that would other wise be there if current flowed one
direction only...

I had at one time started to work on a home brew waver maker or
current flow generator powered by water flow itself patterned after
the infamous seaswirls, but got side tracked on other things. One of
these days I'll get back to it though.

have a copy of hipcrime for some time now and never installed it as I
liked the way Agent worked. I just may have togo and install that dll
