Default Noisy MaxiJet 1200

Thanks everyone for the advice. I'll keep all this in mind next time I have
a noisy filter/powerhead.

Question - I have a MaxiJet 1200 Powerhead in my tank to create some
current for my fish. I have it unplugged though because it is rather
noisy - it makes an almost grinding noise; I think its the impeller or
something, and I'm not sure how to fix/clean it? Anyone have any
suggestions?

Here is a section in the document about clearing your power head:

You have to h and Roy Tristan some credit. He does have a very large and
bold imagination or perhaps its a lot of help from all those voices
that he is hearing all the time in his inebriated head......

Aqua Cloear hob filters have a bad problem of being noisey right out
of the box anymore. Usually when a pump of an y kind makes a noise
especialy a AC its due to noise and a leaking air inlet water tube
etc. But it seems in their haste to put out filters and pumps they are
skipping a step and that is cleaning off the mold flash from the
injection moded parts.

Well it certainly should not make ANY audible noise your going to hear
outside the tank........There may be something in and around the
impeller / magnet making noise. Easy enough to pull apart and check.
Just make sure the impeller cavity is cleanand free od debri and also
the impeller / magnet assembly, and that the rubber bushings on the
ends of the impeller shaft are in place...and not crushed or busted.
There shuld be a rubber bushing on each end of the stainless steel
shaft.

Also, does anyone know whether a noise like that in the tank is bad

for
the fish - it drives me nuts, so I'm assuming it drives them nuts too?
Any thoughts would be nice.

Finally, what's with the taunting messages on this listserv?

Take it apart. The little propeller thing pulls out and has a magnet on the
end. If dirt gets in there, it can make a nasty noise. Use a thin little
bottle brush to clean it out. Do not use soap, etc. I know, that is obvious,
but you never know...so don't be insulted. I had a friend who put a soapy
sponge in her freshwater tank to clean the glass. Duh. She cried when the fish
died.

I bet it does.

Ignore them. Just sad, lonely rude people looking for attention.

You're exactly right. Mine developed a bad noise, and all it took
was a good cleaning with a brush to fix it. That goes for noisy
powerheads too.

Make sure you use the brush between the impellar teeth too.
