My zoos are losing color. I have them at the bottom of the tank under
MH lighting.

Stupid newbie Q, but could somebody outline how to take care of these
and recommend a book on the care and feeding corals?

I do not have zooanthus but have green button polyps and
I find them doing excellent when the water has a lot of
nutrients. They are doing excellent under my power compact
tubes, but moved to the tank with MH and cleaner water
they loose their color.

Hm, it seems that they like a shrimp/fish blend. I haven't been feeding
them at all, so it's probably time. All I have is a turkey baster for a
deep tank, so it's a good thing that I have long arms. :-)

I spot feed all my zoos and shrooms, plates, yellow polyps etc every
other day or so
I know the books all say they get what they need out of the water and
with lights, but spot feeding them makes a world of difference. I made
a spot feeder that dispenses pelleted type food, and has a reach of 18
inches. It loads like a BB gun and uses a hypodermic syringe to push
out as many pellets as desired, selectively to each coral. One or two
pellets on each zoo and yellow polyp and they get balled up, same for
the shrooms, except I put maybe 4 to 6 pellets on and around each
shrooms mouth, and the samefor the plates......I use spectum or
formula pelleted food for my selective feeding, and on occassion I
will place small pieces of silver sides or prawns or krill, but mostly
pelleted feed.

Colony zoos do not really respond to spot feeding like the individual
stalked zoos do.
