Default I got a pair of breeder Angels

Looking for neons for schooling type fish in the tank. I intend to
start feeding some of the hundreds of guppy fry I get......as I
usually get over run with guppy and platy fry....
I ofund they also like mysid shrimp, which reminds me I need to run
into town and pick up another chunk of frozen mysid. I buy 5# trays of
frozen mysids, and break off small ;lieces and put it in a zip lock
baggie for ease of feeding.....

My pick up a dozen or two neons tomorrow, or so.

If you are thinking of the neons for live food I wouldn't bother - my
pair of Angels live with around 20 neons and other small fish and don't
touch them - which is a good thing as I love my neons and they are
hubby's favourites - I know that this isn't always the case and that I
have been lucky to date......I know people have different attitudes
about feeding live fish to fish - personally I turn a blind eye and try
not to think about it too much when my angels and other fish eat the
livebearer fry in the main display tanks....Anyway, if you want to
provide live as well as dead food then getting some livebearers would be
better (and cheaper in the long run as you don't need to replace the
adults and they replace the fry themselves).....

Been feeding the angels krill and chopped silversides and they like it
just fine. As well as cichlid pellets. I know th ewilversides is a
salt water fish but they are high in protein and on the label has them
listed for cichlids and other meat eaters of fresh and sal****er
species.....

Mine get frozen bloodworms, frozen brine shrimp, flake and will
occassionally nibble on some veggies such as cucumber or courgette if
not beaten to it by the rabble of Clown Loaches......and of course I'm
sure that they chomp on any mollie or platy fry as I've got both in the
tank and have not seen any fry since the angels went in there....

Ah, right, I did think for a moment that you had a) either lost your
marbles, b)had more money than sense or c) both of the afore
mentioned......Yes, the neons fit in really well with the angels but you
do need to consider that they could become "lunch" - and it is very much
a case of suck it and see.....

I had the neons before the angels but have introduced more neons
since.....I would say make sure that you get the largest neons in the
shop - some are so small that they are really just the size of
livebearer fry and won't last 5 secs.....Plant the tank as much as you
can before adding them - some valis and long-stemmed plants would
work....this gives the Neons an opportunity to escape.....Only buy 5/6
Neons to start (number depends on the quantity discount given by your
LFS) - this way if it does end in tears you haven't lost too much.....If
the angels and neons seem fine then go ahead and buy some more - nothing
more effective IMO than a school of little brightly coloured fish to
finish off a tank of larger fish. If it doesn't work with the Neons
there are other schooling fish that you might consider - I've just
acquired some flame rasboras - a little bit bigger than the neons and
look just great....

I got a bakers dozen of neons.....about 1" to 1 1/4" in length, cheap
on sale 99 cents each or 6 for $5. I also got half a dozen bloodfin
tetras. Angels were really interested in them when they were in their
acclimataion container in the big tank, and from the looks of the
angels, I could sort of read "food" being turned over in their
minds...But once I released them all, the angels have not paid them
any attention......Just counted again and they are all present and
accounted for...I don;t think they are gonna bother them as they are
probably too large for them to consume......and they have a bunch of
vegetatoin to hide in if need be......Guess time will tell!

The trick to having Angelfish and Neons or Cardinals together in the
same tank is that the Angels must grow up with fully grown (or close
to it) Neons or Cardinals with them. If you use small ones...forget
about it. They're lunch.
Now once you've gotten your Angels used to being aroud Neons or
Cardinals and they're considered tank mates, not food....you can't add
smaller neons ever to replace any that may die. You cannot add larger
angels either.
When adding new neons or cardinals to the tank you should do it like
half an hour after lights out. You don't want their attention going to
prey drive while the new neons are floating in the bag.
The new guys will dart about out of fear of having no where to go with
predatory fish checking them out, and that will turn on their prey
drive towards the new guys.
I've already made that mistake. I didn't think my Angels that were
plenty used to being housed with Neons would decide to go after the
new ones. However, just like I mentioned before...that darting about
behavior in the bag while floating turned it on.
They went right after the newbies and left the established neons
alone.
