Kenya Tree Frag

Hi!
Im hoping someone can give me a lil info on my Kenya Tree Frag. I purchased a small frag from my LFS yesterday and after i let it acclimate i put it into my tank. the guy at my LFS said to kinda place it between two rocks so it doesnt float away or be blown away by the current. anyway, i did just what he said and for some reason the tree wont open up in a sense. its all shrivelled up and has not come anywhere close to being the size that it was in the store's tank. and i actually moved it into a different place in the tank because i thought that maybe it was gettin too much water flow or light. now its on the bottom of my tank in the sand. i was just wondering if its b/c it takes a while for them to acclimate totally and spread their "branches" or if im doing something wrong. i also have mushrooms and polyps in my tank and they are doing just fine so i dont think that it has anything to do with my water parameters since ive also been told that kenya trees are virtually indestructable.
any help would be of assistance and will ease my mind about my new purchase.

I haven't owned one, but while you're waiting for somebody with more
knowledge, I'd quit messing with it and just give it a few days. From
what I've read, this is normal, but if you keep moving it, it will
continue to be stressed.

What kind of lights do you have?

For my experience, LFS usually have 400 MH, getting a great response on the
coral, looking at their best.
Once you take them home, they don't do that good with less lighting (PC).

Besides LFS are supposed to have excellent water conditions: Check your
water parameters.

Also check if the power head is hitting to strongly on them.

Yes it often takes a while for them to adjust.
Keep an eye on it.

If it does not do well after a few days, do a water
change, and see if that helps.

Rather than wedge it it may be better to glue it in place either with
superglue (cyanoacrylate type) or milliput. Both are readily available at
any hobby shops and hardware stores. Milliput specifically says that it is
suitable for reef construction.

How long have you had this coral.....mine took quite a while to come
to life and now is way and above what he was in the LFS.......he
sagged for quite a while - acclimitization and then dealing with my
hermits toppling him......eventually I put him in the substrate and he
has been wonderful ever since.......now I have also had more delicate
corals sold to me as Tree Corals but when I got home and googled it -
it wasn't one and was almost impossible to keep....my LFS gave me a
full refund.....

So if yours is pink.....kind of shrivels up like pink broccoli then it
is a Kenyan Tree Coral - it needs time, patience and the correct
position.....as I said mine is on the substrate and does
brilliantly....

I forgot more about ponds and koi than I'll ever know!

Oh and I forgot the creator and keeper of the rec.ponds hate gorups
that was used to stir up trouble and propblems in an attempt to gain
moderated forums in all th eaquaria groups. Only one sucker of a group
fell for their bull**** though, Rec.ponds....


Read about the hate gorups in realblack and white on Gogle that Gill
created just to drive folks away and create trouble......God only
knows enough of it was dumped on this group in her hate filled war on
carol gulley and some others.
