What to use for holding acrylic together??

A lot of states requires a prescription to buy any syringe even
without a needle attrached. Best bet is but the correct applicator
where they sell the solvent at. Its like $2.00 for a syringe and 4
assorted blunt end needle tips or $3.00 for a squeeze bottle with the
same 4 assorted tips. However a lot of farmers feed and supply places
sell hypodermic syringes without a perscription. And be sure to drag
the syringe backwards during use do not push it forward as it will
cause the tip to clog. Apply slowly and allow to wick in the joint /
crack, and any that flows out of crack just let evaporate do not try
to wipe it off as a lot of times it will evaporate if the humidity is
not high and no marks are left. You will get a white spot where it
spills if humidity is up.

Thanks, where do you get Weld-On 3? Is this something easily found? I had
tried a super glue type glue that was "suppose" to be made for plastics
etc.. and it appeared it would be safe for fish tanks. It held for a short
time than gave away. Do you know if the weld-on 3 is safe for marine/reef
tanks?

Weldon #3 or #4 or #16 is what they use on acrylic when they buiild
fish tanks and yes it is marine / reef safe. It is a solvent that
when its evaporated is safe. Last I knew hazmat shiping charges on a
small container of it is $$ so you may be better to try and find it
locally from a plastics supply or such. I have seen it already in
Michaels Arts and Crafts store under the name of Hobbix acrylic
solvent, in about a 2 fl oz bottle, The main ingredieint is
methylene chloride. There is a 2 part solvent based heavy bodied
adhesive / glue sold by Devcon. Its a 2 part mix but its not reallay
epoxy. In one of the tubes is a thickened compound that has methylene
chloride init, which is needed to melt and create the bond of acrylic
plastic. The other part is a thick filler to build up joints and
fillets etc. I have used this stuff with sucess as its made for Plexi
etc when I needed a thicker bodied cement. Weldon and IPS also makes
this same cement as well. You can usually find a blister card package
of this stuff at most any Wal Mart in the paint department where they
keep glues and sealant and caulks at. Its made by Devcon and will
state for plastic or its called Plasticpoxy or something like that.It
stinks but the snmell goes away when its cured.

It's not something that is sold in the average
hardware store. There are some plastic places that
sell it, but usually such a place is a good drive
away, and it's so much easier to just order it from

Also when you purchase your syringe, get about a
dozen or so. They are dirt cheap, and if you mess
one up, then you will still have plenty left. They
will look at you funny if you just ask to purchase
one. Most towns won't make laws to prevent people
from purchasing them without a prescription because
they don't want the druggies reusing needles and
spreading disease. But the store clerk might give
you trouble if you just ask for one.
