Default Will CopperSafe ich medication "kill" Live Rock

Before I go and buy a batch of Live Rock (considering the
liveaquaria.com premium fiji) I am concerned about using a copper
medication such as "CopperSafe" for addressing any ich outbreaks.

QUESTION: Will the CopperSafe kill my live-rock? what about the
corraline algae on the live rock?

Thanks, Dave

So with that information let me ask you this... I used "CopperSafe" about a
month ago and have done 2 wather changes of about 15-20% each... When will
the copper level be low enough to add new live rock? Is there a measuring
test for copper?

Thanks, Dave

Any and _all_ Copper meds cannot safely be used with LiveRock, or any
and all denitrifying processes. Copper is also an algaecide. Yes! to
all your questions. CopperSafe is safe for nitrifying processes, but
nowhere else.
Ciao!

Salifert has test kit for copper, in answer to what your asking, but i think
what hes trying to tell you is that even if you used the salifert test kit
and it tested low to none, the levels that can kill a reef system can still
be much lower than that, lower than the test kit can detect.
if not, pardon me, and were both bungholes, and just get the kit, if that
wasnt what he meant..

In other words, im not sure what range of copper is safe for the reef, but i
do know salifert does make a Copper test kit, i assume for reefs(because i
know theyre calcium test kit is not for fish :-))

there i went again, you could prob just skip the whole first paragraph and
still understand the mesage im trying to get across... lol..

The problem with all Copper meds is that it chemically unites with all
calcerous materials, and with changes in pH, leaches back out into the
water, making it impossible to keep invertebrates or denitrifyers for
what is probably an indefinite period of time. What one can do is, at
the best, is to start over completely, with all new substrate, rocks,
and any bio-media, and scrubbing out the tank to its bare walls. There
is simply no time-table to tell when your tank would be safe for
invertebrates or liverock, nor any test kits I am aware of that one coud
use that woud deem a tank 'safe' again.
You could change 100% of your water, and the copper will still be there!
In a nutshell, Copper based medications cannot be used in any style of a
'Reef' system, and if used, one needs to start over again with
completely fresh materials. Ciao!

I got a Red Sea copper test kit and the copper level doesn't even
register... so now begs the question again.. How do I know if it's safe?

you wont always be able to detect it. when you added the copper based med
to your tank it was absorbed by everything in the tank. over time it will
leach out and kill inverts. it only tanks a very small amount of copper to
do this.
