Hi,

I am selling my kribensis (about inch and half in lenght) to a local fish
shop for $0.33 each. Is this price reasonable?
I have about 15 of them.
They are from the breeding pair i bought about 6 months back. I dont have
space for so many kribs in my 20 gallon tank.

Standard rate is 1/3 of what the store will sell them for.
$0.33 is a rip off. You'd get more money selling it to your local
aquarium club members and they'll be getting quality fish.

peice....

1/3 of retail is a fair wholesale price for many fish,,
BUT .. Kribs, convicts, and many other common fish
- particularly juvenile size as you indicate, are offered by
many other people too, so take what he offers as a fair
price.
If you want to bargain, ask for $1.00 in trade . i.e. $15
in merchandise, for them.

No matter how common the fish maybe, I still think it wouldn't
be fair for the LFS to get it dirt cheap and then turn around and
sell it for $6.99 a peice. If they're planning on selling it for $2.99
then, yes, $1 per fish is fair. Don't forget, the price the LFS
sells their fish for, includes the 'buffer' that they need in order to
make up for losses that occur during shipping. With fish from a hobbyist,
those losses rarely occur. Ah, useless arguement. I'd still rather give my
fish away to a hobbyist, than to sell its dirt cheap to a greedy LFS.

I think I've read a lot of good posts on this issue. I don't do this for
the money either, but I'll try to make every penny I can because I'm not
rich and this hobby can get expensive.

I give away my fish to the LFS all the time. Sometimes I trade for
food. Who cares, I'm not in this for the money and it's better than
flushing those babies down the toilet.

Don't be greedy. Think of the fish. And if the LFS makes a nice profit
on your fish, well good for them!
