Default Hydor Canister Filter

Hi to everyone,
I was wondering if I might ask a question of you friendly and knowledgeable
people. :-)

We purchased a hydor prime 20 canister filter a couple of months ago. We
were told that it was an excellent filter and that the shop had never
received any complaints about it. We put it on a 4ft x 2ft x 18" fish tank
which contains 3 uarus, 6 discus of varing sizes, a couple of bristlenose
catties and 2 archerfish....yeah, I know....what the...archerfish in with
the americans...lol. (They all get on famously)

Anyway, the filter right from the beginning didn't have a very strong flow
like the eheim or the fluvals, but that wasn't the problem. Problem is that
after every 2 to 3 days, the filter would just stop working....there was
sound but no flow....and it would stay like that till we pulled the filter
apart and checked it.....it was never very dirty....in fact, hardly at all.

So, can anyone of you lovely ppl please help me out with an answer to what
the problem may be....other than it appears to have been an expensive waste
of money? My thought was that maybe the impeller was faulty, but not sure
since there was still sound and vibration. We double checked every hose and
connection and couldn't find the cause....so I am hoping that someone here
can help us.

Thanx in advance,
Alicia
