I just started cycling a new 20 gallon tank. I was thinking about
putting some smaller African cichlids in it, any suggestions on what would work well in this size tank? Sunshyn |

Africans... Try Kribs.. The rest really need more room... I would not get a
tank smaller than a 55 for most Africans, due to them being very teritorial and thier typical size... Tim... "Paulo" wrote in message ... I was thinking about putting some smaller African cichlids in it, any suggestions on what would work well in this size tank? Sunshyn If you were looking at Africans, I'd base the decision upon the pH of your tap water. If your tap water is close to neutral, up to 7.4, I'd go with the riverine species. Pair of Kribs -or- Pair of Jewel Cichlids -or- Pair of Anomalochromis thomasi If your tap was higher or you wanted to buffer to 7.8 or greater there are quite a few possibilities from Lake Tanganyika. Neolamprologus brichardi or any in that family. N. pulcher, etc. A pair would have no problems filling the tank with fry. Lamprologus brevis Lamprologus occelatus Lamprologus similis Lamprologus multifasciauts Julidochromis transcriptus J. regani J. marlieri J. dickfeldi A. compressiceps "sumbu" (dwarf shellies) There are a lot of other shell dwellers out there that would be worth looking into. The Julies would do well in a 20 gallon as a pair. The L. multies are colony breeders and you could do a dozen in a 20 gallon. Ahhhh, the possibilities are endless. Amateur www.amateurcichlids.com |
