Rick,
Jonathan if this has a whitish appearance it is likely a fungal infection. You can net the fish and while gently holding the fish in the net apply some meth. blue or other anti fungal medication directly to the spot uisng a q tip. Although a little secondary fungus appears to be showing up, most of it appears to be internal swelling. So I don't think dealing with the fungus would take care of the problem. Thanks. Jonathan |

Jonathan they are a very hardy fish and it will likely be fine. I have a dozen Lepomis megalotis (longear sunfish) at the moment in a cold water tank. Rick |

Rick,
they are a very hardy fish and it will likely be fine. I have a dozen Lepomis megalotis (longear sunfish) at the moment in a cold water tank. I've seen photos of those that look awesome. I had a few green sunfish, which are local, but they don't have longear sunfish in my area (Salt Lake City, UT). I've always thought longear sunfish would be really cool! Jonathan |

Jonathan ive got one that i caught as a baby in a minnow trap that i catch food for my snapping turtle. that was a year ago. the turtle wont eat it! ive had another "pet" for the past year. i guess the turtle would rather be in the tank with my cichlids that he stares at all day. i guess they look like they taste better. the sunfish is pretty cool tho. has as much personality as my cichlids. |

![]() Charles, My vet told me that antibiotics in the water don't do much good for an infection in the fish, they will kill stuff in the water. there are various medicated foods, if I were going to use one I would get them from Dr. Johnson's place, www.koivet.com Lots of good info there as well. Thanks--I checked out the site. One LFS was a little rude when I suggested that medicated foods might be more effective than antibotics in the water. I don't know if the product you mentioned (which appears designed for koi) would work for me, or even if my fish would eat it. I haven't found anything like that locally--I'll look around a bit more. Thanks. Jonathan Get some freeze dried food and soak it in a little of the antibiotic, then feed your fish with that. will get the med right in him. |
