Default FW Planted tank snail control.

What is a usefull predator to eat snails in a planted tank?

I keep three siamese algae eaters and 8 rasboras in a 55 gallon tank
currently.

Many types of loaches will destroy snails with reckless abandon. Clown
loaches are best, IMO, but many will reply to this that they get too large,
and I always counter with "Fine. In 6 years when they outgrow the tank, you
can find them a new home, or you'll have a ready-made justification for a
bigger tank."
I've been told that Dojo (weather) loaches eat mucho snails as well, but
I am yet to have one that does.

For a tank your size I'd recommend Botia lohachata or Botia striata, go
to loaches.com for descriptions.

I am trying a pakastani loach for this.

Please remember that loaches are social fish and prefer to be in groups
of at least 3. Botia striata is small enough that you can have a nice
group of them in your 55 gallon.

Another good options is Anomalochromis Thomasi. Nice picture at
http://www.cichlidae.com/gallery/Ano...s/thomasi.html.

Very pretty, adult size up to three inches. Good choice for a
community tank. Mine have spawned several times. Interesting
to watch too because the adults both care for the fry.

These seem to be something of a secret when it comes to snail
eradication. A very knowledgeable person at my LFS recommended
that fish to me when I had a tank that was getting completely overrun
by ramshorn snails and I got sick of fishing out fifty or sixty of the damn
things every day and still not getting on top of them. One pair of
Anomalochromis Thomasi wiped out the entire population in about
three weeks. No more snails since then...

Cheers,

Michi.
