Default how to thoroughly clean tank?

My tank has a recurring ich problem. How do I clean the tank thoroughly?
I've been doing frequent water changes and adding medication when the ich
problem occurs, but the outbreaks seem to get worse after each water change.

You might consider tub-to-tub ing your fish...
http://users.megapathdsl.net/~solo/p...htm#TUB_TO_TUB

0) remove fish (duh)
1) bleach tank
2) rinse tank with water and dechlorinator until you can't smell bleach.
(lots of times)
2a) Might want to leave it out in direct sunshine a couple of days...
3) restart (recycle, ugh, consider fishless cycling)

Keep in mind that your media could be contaminated too. Read up on the
ich lifecycle. You might be able to wait it out without hosts for
them...

temp of the water is ~76 degrees, i need to measure the nitrates (all the
other parameters are fine), the water is drinkable but i don't drink tap
water (i use tap water for the fish).

either the temp of your water is too cold, or you arent getting the

nitrates down to
20 ppm or lower, or, your water is too lousy for GF. Do you drink your

water or get
bottled water?

if you dont drink the water cause it tastes lousy, then it isnt good enough for the
fish either. Ingrid
