Hi all,
I feed my Oranda once per day, in the morning, and they are happy to see me -- when I turn on the light they rush to the surface. They eat for a good five minutes or so, then spend a big part of the day searching for leftover tidbits they might have missed, kissing the sides of the tank for algae, etc. I was wondering, it's probably natural for them but I wanted to check -- are your fish hungry little buggers, too? Also, I was feeding them twice per day in the very beginning, and then it seemed too much so I went to once per day. Am I better off feeding them a smaller amount, but twice per day? Thanks, Andrea |

Thanks, Andrea I think, because they like to eat so much, I would feed them less food, more often. Jacqui |

This is perfectly normal behavior, a booking goldfish is a happy goldfish. As for feeding? They probably would like smaller meals several times a day rather than one big one. -D -- "A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort." -Herm Albright |

Unfortunately, I had a disaster shortly after I wrote this message. I'd changed the water in the tank today using a different water source than usual. A few hours later I went by the tank to find the fish floating. I am afraid that the water source I used had either soap or detergent of some sort on it, and it killed them quickly. I tried water changes, to no avail. I feel pretty lousy, needless to say. Two healthy fish, gone in almost an instant. |

I changed the water without using dechlorinator [I had been adding it after, my house has a dechlorinator built in, but it was broken that day]. Killed all 4 of my fish in a matter of minutes. :'( Sorry for your loss. |

Well, when you're ready to get some new fish, then you can feed those ones a few times a day. Try not to beat yourself up about these fish... just learn from the mistake. Jacqui |
