Hello,
Seth from the Upper Valley between Vermont and New Hampshire in the USA here. I have a small, 110-gallon indoor pond with a lot of plants, a few koi, and a few goldfish. I mostly live vicariously through other people's ponds. I help manage the fish room of one of the local pet shops and I help people understand fish-keeping science, proper setup, and proper maintenance. I live with my partner, have two stepsons, two incredibly mischievous cats, an ultra-bitchy African Grey parrot, two fish tanks, and more house plants than you can count. I am very much into gardening and outdoor activities in general. Good to read about all of you. |

Born in Hamburg, Germany in 1954. In 1958 my parents emigrated to Canada
(Saskatchewan specifically). They had the option of going to a really warm place like Australia, but nooooooooooo. Moved to California in 1983. The weather here in San Diego is just plain awesome, but the people quantity is getting a tad out of hand. I'm a computer guy (UCSD 1989) that consults. I do database management, web sites and generally advise (those that can, do, those that can't, consult) My significant other and I have been together for about 5 years and figure one of these days we'll get married. I have one daughter, 25, who is thinking about moving back to Canada, perhaps to Vancouver. We built our pond a couple of years ago. 4,000-5,000 gallons and couldn't be happier with it. We installed a UV when we built it, but it hasn't been on since last August. We keep gold fish, a red-eared slider we rescued from a swimming pool named Colombo and an Oscar we got to eat the mosquito fish, but who, instead, eats fish pellets. We bring him inside for the winter. We garden like crazy, love to cook and have parties. Photography is a hobby as well and this year I finally broke down and went digital. I also like football and baseball, although with our local teams it is trying. Moved in to my girlfriend's house spring '03 and started digging within weeks. Previously lived in a highrise where I got my fix with a 35 gallon aquarium and rec.aquaria.freshwater.plants I have further augmented her yard with a Portuguese Water Dog and a Weber Smokey Mountain cooker (see alt.food.barbecue). I was sitting in the yard with Sue last night enjoying a beverage, looking at my 500 gallon pond, watching the 3 Sarasa comets play in the current from the VF while I played fetch with my dog. Life is good. Cam |

Hi Everyone -
My name is Heather and along with a lot of help from my DH Jim, we have a lovely 1800 gal goldfish pond fed by a 15' stream from a very small header pond that we built two years ago. After really enjoying the visits from frogs last summer, we dug a second pond (at about 800 gal) this spring devoted to the frogs. It's very woodsy, with floating logs, pollywogs, lots of duckweed and a few mosquito fish. Pics at http://community.webshots.com/user/heathersmyth Our property is nearly four acres of hardwood trees. In the back there are vernal ponds. A lot of our pond plantings and decor are found on scavenger hunts in the surrounding woods. Nice decayed logs, moss for between rocks, even blue flag! Kept aquariums for years but do enjoy the ponds much more. Some of our original 39 cent feeder fish are now 6 - 7" long and beautiful. We are early 50's, with five grown children, one married. No other pets currently. Lost our cat a few years ago and DH says "No more until you are retired". I really enjoy this friendly group and really appreciate the knowledgeable help found here! My name is Lydia and I'm just south of Seattle, Washington. My little 500
gallon pond is just a mere 9 months old. I live in a brand new house with my husband Adam, 3 kitty cat overlords, and 32 gallons of aquarium fish (to appease the 3 furry bosses). In the short time we've had our pond finished, we've enjoyed tadpoles turned frogs, singing adult frogs at night, flowering water lily, pickerel rush, and water hyacinths, birds coming to drink, and relaxing to the sounds of the waterfall. It's already made itself well worth the hard pickaxe work involved in digging the hole. I rarely have any advice to offer here, but I continue to absorb the info. others offer and enjoy visiting the group when I can. "matrix j" wrote in message ... I'm 57, primary interest is birdwatching but like all things "natural"!
As for where I've been: PAMITXPANDCANDNYNJVTNC And, a note to Bill: on behalf of all of us who should try, at least, to tell people what they mean to us while they are still here -- "hear here" (I think that's how the toast goes). For what it's worth, I just want to go on record as acknowledging that your
"roll call" post has enabled me to learn more about my fellow pond-people than I have ever known about them. I find myself overwhelmed by the replies to your post. (I was used to posts on genealogy mailing lists, where the "roll call" is the particular genealogy line one is searching -- and BTW I would be honored if I could help anyone with tips about genealogy research), but this......... this roll call is special. Thank you again, matrix. Anne Lurie Raleigh, NC "matrix j" wrote in message ... Just wondering if rec.ponds ever does a roll call every now and then?
