Default Rec.ponds Roll Call?

You said it so perfectly.

I lurk in another group (Rec.Auto.Ford.Mustang??), I would not dare reveal
any information about myself in that group, knowing very well it will be use
to assault me later.

Anyway, our pond group here is so loving, so supporting that I did not
hesitate to share.

Matrix, thank you for getting us started with the roll call!

BV, I look forward to meeting you when I come up to Baltimore in a three
weeks. Warn the neighbors!

For what it's worth, I just want to go on record as acknowledging that

your
"roll call" post has enabled me to learn more about my fellow pond-people
than I have ever known about them.

I find myself overwhelmed by the replies to your post. (I was used to

posts
on genealogy mailing lists, where the "roll call" is the particular
genealogy line one is searching -- and BTW I would be honored if I could
help anyone with tips about genealogy research), but this......... this

roll
call is special.

Thank you again, matrix.

Just wondering if rec.ponds ever does a roll call every now and then?

Just to see where everyone is from and what other interests and hobbies
they may have?

Default Rec.ponds Roll Call?

Hi,
how here, zone 10b.
Passions are ponds, palms, puters, my lovely wife Iris of 35 years (artist),
Octavio and Mitzvah our cats, and our 1+ acres of paradise called The Frog
Pond.
One 30 x 45 foot "borrow pit" natural pond. A 750 gal, a 250 gal, and 15 35
gal "lily" ponds. Worked for years with a large concrete pond builder.
Designed and built filters for large and small ponds, usually concrete. Used
to do lots of maintenance but my back and other circumstances make this a
semi occupation now.
Found this group in the nineties lurked and used a few handles posting
intermittently since.

Addendum:

Mentioned I had 1.5 cats....well the .5 died quietly this Father's day. We
buried him wrapped in his quilt behind the pond next to the waterfall.....love
this roll call.

Default Rec.ponds Roll Call?

Hi Everyone!

We're new to the group but not exactly new to ponding (one under our
belts). We're James and Misty and live across the Puget Sound from
Seattle, Washington, USA, Earth.

We just bought 3.5 acres and have plans for 3 ponds:
-A Smaller, but deep koi pond near our deck.

-a large (35 x 45) pond with 15' watercourse and 25' 'creek' to the
pond

-and a very large, 100% natural pond (clay-lined) back in the woods.

Since James is a sculptor, the ULTIMATE goal is to turn the entire
property into a sculpture park for many artists to display their work,
so appearance and displaying art is going to be a primary goal.

Big plans, little Budget. :-)

Default Rec.ponds Roll Call?

I guess I'll put myself in here even though I've ignored this "roll call"
so far. I'm Robyn Rhudy in Zone 6/7 in Central Maryland. I started with
rec.ponds in 1996, and the people then were invaluable in helping me. I
have 8 ponds right now of 1800, 153, 50, 20, 20, 20, 18, and 2 gallons. I
also have 4 aquariums, 4 cats, 1 dog, 2 rabbits, 2 guinea pigs, 2
hedgehogs, 1 sailfin lizard, and 4 chickens. I had my 1800 gallon pond
built in 1997. As a result, I set up a small web site on my pond and the
animals I had at the time. I do all the HTML code myself from
scratch and put in all the details I can think of. Well, it's snowballed.
My site is now called fishpondinfo.com and is the largest non-commercial
pond web site that I know of. I get over 3000 daily hits and the site
now costs me close to $50 a month from my own pocket for the 17 GB
monthly bandwidth. Now, people pester me for the answers to all their
questions!

I'm 31-years-old and have lives with my parents on 5 acres since 1997. I
got a Masters in analytical chemistry in 1996 and now test foods on HPLC
equipment for half what my younger brother makes as a computer
programmer (he helps with my site). As a teenager, I was a professional
magician. I was voted smartest female in my graduating high school
class. I was mostly a straight-A student. I watch 3 soap operas daily -
my only "social life." I spend 35+ hours on the animals each week. I
never take a vacation; I can't. The last time I didn't sleep in my bed
was May, 1996. I'm still waiting to be asked on my first date. Any more
information, and I'll make you sick so bye and happy ponding!

Default Rec.ponds Roll Call?

I'm a newcomer to this group - found it a little over a year ago when
I had questions about the house in Phoenix with two ponds my wife and
I bought. We've been married for 36 years, 7 months, 20 days and some
odd hours (some odder than others). Two grown children, 1 grandchild,
and a second due early next year. My wife is a teacher, I'm disabled,
and the pond person by default (also chief cook, bottle washer, and
garbage carrier outer).

Default Rec.ponds Roll Call?

A number of years ago now, in my little dorm room I used to have a poster on
my wall. "I do my thing and you do yours, and if by chance we meet - it's
wonderful". A bit naive?- thats me. Nonetheless though the poster is long
since gone the sentiment has remained. We are meeting and I do think it's
wonderful. Keep em coming!

btw - The poster was of a woman cradling her young baby, sitting on the edge
of forest, in beautiful green field. I feel sure if the camera had paned
back just a little there would have been a pond in the foreground

I'm 57, primary interest is birdwatching but like all things "natural"!

As for where I've been: PAMITXPANDCANDNYNJVTNC

And, a note to Bill: on behalf of all of us who should try, at least, to
tell people what they mean to us while they are still here -- "hear

here"
(I think that's how the toast goes).

Dang it! I posted my little blurb yesterday morning and I have yet to see
it show up. So I'll try it again and apologize for any duplication if the
original shows up some day.

Now let's see... what did I say....

My name is Lydia and I'm 'tree yers oood' - plus 27 years makes me 30. My
husband, Adam, and I live in a new house south of Seattle, Washington and
our meager pond is about 500 gallons and 8 or 9 months old now. The
enjoyment it's given us in that short time (flowering water hyacinth,
flowering water lily, flowering pickerel rush, tadpoles turned into frogs,
night time adult frog singing, birds stopping in for a drink, etc) has made
it well worth the excruciating pickaxe digging we endured to dig the hole.
I don't usually have any advice to offer to others here, but I sure do
appreciate and enjoy what I mooch from you all!

Lydia
