Anyone know who sells the Lerio Whiskey Barrel liner with waterfall

spout?

I'm getting tired of cleaning the external filter. The Skippy filter

looks
promising, but I don't have the room to hide a stock container. So I

thought
I could make an upflow filter out of a Whiskey Barrel.

I saw a whiskey barrel liner with spillover "spout", a pump, etc. at
Wallmart just a month or so ago.

BV.

Thanks BV, my favourite place to shop. Good prices and no shipping hassles.

Thanks Bonnie, I discovered that PondsOnline (Canada) carries them.

Are you using yours as a pond or a biofilter? Any problem matching it up
with the whiskey barrel?

Hi Bill,

Mine is used as a veggie filter for a 100 gallon pond. It
just slid right into the half barrel - no problems. Largest
problem was trying to figure out how to keep the plants in
the barrel - I decided to use fishing line to anchor a
slotted plant basket in front of the spillway.

Thanks Bonnie, could you give me your plumbing tips?

Did you attach the pump to the bottom of the barrel or run a pipe down the
centre?
Did you install a drain plug for backwashing?
Do you have a settling chamber at the bottom where the water enters?
What's your preferred filter media?
How often do you have to clean it?
Did you install a check valve on your pump, so the barrel can't empty into
the pond?

I was tempted to pick one up, but figured I have enough of a mess in my yard
right now. Maybe next year.

Believe me, I go simple. I just attached the tubing to the
pump (which is in a slotted basket lined with blue furnace
filter) and placed in the pond and ran it to the bottom of
the of the half barrel. In fact, I think it circles the
bottom of the half barrel. Then I added floating plants.
This gets cleaned once a year.
The barrel will only empty to the level of the spillway if
the power goes off, I've never had a problem.
