Hi,
I'm interested in getting a printed reference book for all things about keeping a coral reef aquarium. I'd like something I could read besides all the online stuff I've found. Could anyone recommend a really good book that is as up to date as possible? Thank you. |

Aquarium Corals - by Eric Borneman
Reef Invertebrates - by Anthony Calfo and Robert Fenner I'm just starting the second one, but it looks to be excellent. Thanks. I'll just want to check the publication dates.
It was getting very silly when I looked at some books and saw that they were 5 to 10 years old. In your opinion, what would be the cutoff date for information that is relatively current? I realize that things are always changing, but is there some point in time, say, 3 to 5 years back, that the fundamental technology and/or general knowledge has not changed significantly since? For instance, if calcium reactors only came on the market 5 years ago, then I would think that any information prior to this "milestone" would be largely out of date. Thanks again. Hmm. That's a tough one. I do so much of my learning online, personally. Both
books that I recommended are very recent. I got "Corals" at last year's MACNA, and "Invertebrates" at this year's MACNA, hot off the presses. Some of the stuff discussed in older publications would still hold true, but like you said, updates and new theories surface all the time. I think it is important to consider the author as well, whether they are respected in the hobby or not. Boomer and Jimmy Chen might have some futher thoughts on this matter. For general reference, my favorite is the "Modern Coral Reef Aquarium" 4 volume set by Fossa and Nilsen. jc |
