![]() Ok, I have a 30 gallon tank. No protein skimmer or any live coral. Filter is a hang on the back type. I have one fish in it: a clown. I has been doing pretty good for about five or six months. Anyway, I'm thinking about putting another clown fish in the tank, so my first clown can have company. Is this a big no no or what? Or will two clowns be okay in the same 30 gallon tank? Thanks! |

A matched pair will co-exist, but individuals usually not, once they reach adulthood. Clowns are fiercely territorial. You can try adding one, but like I said, the results may be quite bad. --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com). Or will two | clowns be okay in the same 30 gallon tank? | Depends on the type of clown. If you're talking about the run of the mill false clown (oceliarus) it can be done. When I bought my first clown, I made sure it was a female by purchasing the largest one in the tank. I then added a male by buying one of the small ones of the tank at the petshop a few months later. She picked on it for about an hour, nothing too extreme, and after that they started cruising each other for lack of a better term. They were obviously paired up. I took a chance and added another small male a few months after since I either took it in or it was being flushed. That caused havok for about a day. The new male surplanted the other for another week. Since then they cohabit very peacefully. The female seems to alternate between the two. She will spend some time paired up with one then the other. It happens very often that they are all together. Even this morning they were sleeping together all grouped into the same corner. Robert |
