Default Recommendation for Los Angeles area LFS for cichlids?

I've had some dismal results looking for a quality LFS...and I know there
has to be some great ones in the L.A. area? Can anyone recommend a Los
Angeles area LFS which has a good selection of African cichlids? Thanks!

I'd actually tried Kyoto's and Fuji's already...Fuji's is out of business!

I haven't visited for several months and not sure of AC, but check
with

Fumi's Tropical fish
4211 W Pico Blvd

LA

939-5255 (213, I guess)

It's the only store that impressed me enough that I kept their card.

If you find any stores you like better, please post info.

thanks

If you can't find anything up there, try Fountain's in San Diego.
http://www.fountainsaquarium.com/ They usually have a pretty good
assortment of African cichlids. Call to see what's in stock before you
drive down, of course.

Fumi's isn't out of business if that's the one your thinking of. They
just moved across the street. And yes, they get my vote for LA LFS for
all types of fish. Very well kept.

aww...I'll check it out then, I drove by the other weekend and must have
seen their old location that had a "for lease" sign up.

Thanks

There are three good ones I know of on Ventura Blvd in the Valley -
Marks Tropical Fish on Ventura Place and Laurel Canyon, Aquarium
Central (I think that's the name) on Ventura at Woodman on the
southwest corner and one more on Ventura just East of Van Nuys on the
North side of the street on the same block as Guitar Center.

I bought most of my fish from Marks and Aquarium Central. I do not
recommend the lfs on Santa Monica Blvd at Fuller near Trader Joes.
Last time I was there I saw the owner selling a couple about a dozen
fish and the tank they'd go into at the same time... I asked him to be
sure and he shrugged and confirmed. I left with my money in my pocket.
What's the cross street of Fumis on Pico?

That's the one we were talking about. They told me you can't cycle
without fish on my first day there and I had to return lightbulbs twice
because they kept talking me into buying what they had instead of what
I was asking for, etc.

The fish look good, you just have to know what you're doing when you go
to that place.
