it'll work just fine, but you'll want to be sure you have proper filtration,
and aeration. You'll also probably want to cover the pool with some netting
to keep the fish from jumping out.

Yes! I use them to hold, breed and raise goldfish and small koi. I line
them with a black drop cloth and drop in a small pump for aeration and
filtration. I run a circle of hardware cloth around them and a bird net
over the top! The fish grow like crazy.

Just be careful that a cat, racoon or any other critter cant get to
them especially if the pool is not deep. Maybe you can cover it with
something or possibley add lots of floating plants for them to hide
under. Or, better yet, keep it in your basement, garage or closed in
patio.

Carol - I think it was your suggestion that I originally took on my kiddie
pool with the black plastic drop cloth. I ringed mine with a layer of
bricks, partly for decor and partially to divert water from flowing into the
pool. Thus far it has been a still pond, with lotsa 'overflow' plants and a
few baby comets and rosey reds. Electric is an issue at the moment but I
am curious what sort of 'filtration' you have. Any bio filter? What is
hardware cloth?

I'm not Carol, but I used to work in a hardware store - Hardware cloth is
like chicken wire. There are pictures at the bottom of this page:

What part of the country are you in? I think a kiddie pool is too shallow
for fish ponding in the midwest.

Hardware cloth is normally mesh / screen that has its wire fabric laid
at 90 deg to each other and sold in sizes from /8" sq to 1/2" square.
It is referred to as space cloth in some regions......
