Couple of quick questions , OK?

AM interested in doing a tank lighting project that uses only Luxeons.
I know they produce a fair quanity of heat etc, but there is some
terminology I do not quite understand.

What is a PUCK?
What is a SLUG?
What is a DRIVER?

Best I can figure out a Puck is a device that regulates the input
power?

Best I can figure out a Slug is a heat sink or a thin piece of
between luxeon back portion and the circuit board or heat sink??

Best I can figure out a driver owld be the power supply or a PUCK
perhaps??

I want to use a Luxeon 1 or 3 watt for fuge lighting on my PICO tanks,
and I want to make a PICO illuminated with nothing but Luxeons for
daylight lighting, and then use LEDS for Lunar, and possibly add in
some Red/Yellows for a sunrise/sunset effect.....and of coarse some UV
for color enhancement of florescent critters as well.....Its the
Luxeon terminolory thats confusing me.
I use anodized aluminum bleacher foot board and seat material to make
strip lighting with. Its an aluminum extrusion that is almost
identical to Coralifes extruded aluminum they use in their hoods /
lights, and can be had in 4" through 12" widths. I am thinking it
would be a good base surface and help act as a huge heat sink
especially if fans was added for additional cooling. I also have some
huge aluminum heatsinks I obtained from various piece of equipment,
which I used to just melt down in my home foundry and make into
something else, but I could also add a heat sink on top of the
aluminum housing, and enclose it all in an acrylic hood to make a
clean looking hood / light asembly, and then add in the fans and it
should run pretty darn cool if I am thinking this project out
correctly.

Right now I am playing around wirth a DC motor power supply /
controller on my bandsaw that left out all its magic smoke, to see if
I can figure out what it may take to fix it if withiin my means or
just bite the bullet and buy a new one. I just finished checking all
resistors, and they are all fine, now I have all the oter components
to check out, once I read and reread the data on those items and what
to look for. I found a website that has a lot of good trouble
shooting proceedures for various components etc on it so its worth
learning from. Heck its toast anyhow, so I certainly can;t hurt it any
more than it already is, and if I can fix or maybe fix it for a few
bucks worth of parts its a big savings of a few hundred bucks to buy a
new one. So its worth playing with.
