The reason they use more power is because the motor in on the other side of
the glass and there is energy loss there. Sure they run cooler but I never heard of a tunze overheating a tank. Usually it is the lights that cause the heat issues. Also keep in mind that both of these pumps are designed for bigger tanks genneraly 100 gallons plus.
