Default good tool for planting, etc.?

Hi.

I'm heading to the LFS this evening to buy some new plants, and probably a
few new fish.

One question related to this -- I've been thinking I'd like to get
something to help me plant / rearrange gravel, etc. in my tank without
sticking my arm in up to my shoulder (my tank is a 75 gallon, and I don't
have the longest arms in the world). I've seen the tools that the LFS
sells with the plastic tines at the end, but none of them seem terribly
long nor do they seem terribly well constructed.

So, my question is, does anyone have a good suggestion for a good quality
tool I can get to help with planting and general aquascaping? Is there
something at the hardware store or maybe a kitchen store (BBQ tools?) that
might work better than the usual plastic plant grippers you see at Petco?

Any advice appreciated!
