Construction wise I don't see that it would be much of a problem. I also looked in to building my own tank at one point, though decided against it. I understood the use of wood to mostly be a cost decision --- panes of glass thick enough to hold together for really big tanks would be enormously expensive. If that's the case, I'd say go for it. Sounds like a great project.
