Feeling a bit overwhelmed by the continuing attacks so thought I'd create a new topic. What are you going to try new in the pond this year? Dig a new pond. About one-third the size of the present one, and in the shade -- finding good shade plants should be a fun challenge. -- Kizhe A new plant, make a veggie filter, build a bog, try a different kind of fish, add a turtle, repel invaders, or build a new pond or container water garden? kathy www.blogfromthebog.com |

I'm going to try sweet potato vine again.
But not on the sunken Atlantis island... I have two tub gardens that I grew society garlic and some kind of lacy groud cover type plant in (I will try to be better about names!) Went out to one of my favorite nurseries today and bought some lime green and a darker shade of the sweet potato vine and will plant it in the tubs this weekend if I get the chance. (We are having round the clock band stuff around here, very busy.) kathy :-) |

My plan is to dig a pond - we had one 6 years ago that was badly sited under some very large trees. Now my daughter is 4 I'm ready to start again which is why I have been watching this newsgroup..... I've chosen the site which is away from any trees and actually close to the house so in a good position for power etc.....I'm now working on the design and trying to decide if it will be raised (in which case Koi might be an option) or just a natural pond. Right now I'm looking at the natural side and looking at maybe digging it a bit deeper so Koi could be an option. Once I've decided on the type of pond and the fish that I want to put in there I will be looking at my options for filtration.....and go from there. Spade will probably come out within the next week or two (unfortunately we can't get a digger out the back so it will be hand dug) Gill |

A new plant, make a veggie filter, build a bog, try a different kind of fish, add a turtle, repel invaders, or build a new pond or container water garden? kathy www.blogfromthebog.com I am in the process of filling in my upper pond with dirt. This area will be planted and I will put a bench there and place my lotuses there as well. This way we can enjoy the pond from 2 sides. I added a stream with a header pond to aid filtration. The water was crystal clear until I mucked it up with some clay that got away from me. I lifted the liner and got the clay that had undermined this winter during a horrible weather spell. 10 inches of snow melted- then rained for 3 days. Since I had my water level below ground level- there was some serious liner bublling and some undermining. After I reviewed the law of physics that says water will seek it's own level- I stopped draining the pond to below ground level. Before this physics review, stupid happened- as I previously thought that if my pond overflowed it would drain water under the liner and cause the bubbling. Therefore I drained the pond - which ensured bubbling when the ground water table rose. lol (and crying a little too). -- Koitoy |
